Defending champion De La Salle University vowed to come back strong against archrival Ateneo de Manila University on Thursday to keep its title-retention bid alive in the 71st University Athletic Association of the Philippines men’s basketball tournament.
While the Blue Eagles are still celebrating their 69-61 series opener victory on Sunday, the Green Archers are busy mapping out a master plan in Game 2 of their best-of-three championship series.
La Salle is still winless in three games over Ateneo this season but coach Franz Pumaren is not giving up.
“It’s not over yet. You need to win two times to win the championship,” stressed Pumaren.
“We’ll go all out on Thursday to even the series,” added Pumaren, also coach of the RP Youth team which finished seventh in the FIBA Asian tournament in Iran.
Pumaren will need to figure out how to stop Ateneo slotman Rabeh Al-Hussaini who delivered 31 points the last time out.
